Before You Get Started

A Warm Welcome

Reaching out for support can feel like a big step, especially if this is your first experience with counselling or coaching.

Many people who contact me are used to managing everything themselves. From the outside, life may look organised and under control, but internally they often feel mentally exhausted, overwhelmed by constant thinking, emotionally stuck, or disconnected from themselves.

My work is designed for adults across the UK who are looking for a calm, professional space to slow things down, understand what is happening beneath the surface, and begin making meaningful changes.

I offer confidential online counselling and coaching support for people experiencing:

  • Anxiety and overthinking

  • Stress and emotional pressure

  • Burnout and mental exhaustion

  • Low mood and emotional overwhelm

  • Feeling mentally stuck or disconnected

  • Difficulty switching off or relaxing

  • Repeating patterns in thoughts, emotions, or relationships

Sessions are structured around your individual experiences, needs, and goals. There is no pressure to have everything figured out before you begin.

Whether you are seeking emotional support, clarity, practical change, or simply a space where you can speak openly without judgement, the process is designed to feel calm, supportive, and professionally guided.

How It Works

Initial Contact

The process usually begins with an enquiry through the website contact form or by email.

You do not need to write anything perfectly or explain everything straight away. A brief outline of what has been going on is enough.

Once your enquiry is received, you will be contacted with information about availability, next steps, and how to proceed.

Booking Your First Session

If sessions are suitable for your needs, you will be offered available appointment options.

Before your first session, you may receive:

  • A short intake or enquiry form

  • Session information

  • Confidentiality and privacy details

  • Payment and booking information

  • Instructions for joining online sessions

The aim is to make the process straightforward and clear without unnecessary paperwork or pressure.

During Sessions

Sessions are one-to-one and tailored to you.

Some people arrive with a very clear understanding of what they want to work on. Others simply know that something does not feel right anymore. Both are completely normal.

During sessions, you can expect:

  • A calm, confidential space to talk openly

  • Support without judgement or criticism

  • Thoughtful exploration of patterns, emotions, and behaviours

  • Practical insight where appropriate

  • A pace that feels manageable and realistic for you

There is no expectation to share everything immediately. Sessions develop gradually over time.

Ongoing Support

Some clients attend short-term support focused on a specific issue or life period. Others choose longer-term work to explore deeper patterns and lasting change.

Sessions are reviewed regularly so the support continues to feel useful, relevant, and appropriate for your needs.

Online Sessions

Online Counselling & Coaching Across the UK

Sessions are currently offered online, allowing you to access support from the comfort and privacy of your own space.

Online sessions can often feel more accessible and comfortable for people who:

  • Have busy schedules

  • Travel frequently

  • Prefer privacy and convenience

  • Feel more relaxed speaking from home

  • Live outside Birmingham or surrounding areas

Sessions are typically held via secure video platform.

You will receive clear joining instructions before your appointment.

What You Need

You only need:

  • A stable internet connection

  • A phone, tablet, or computer

  • A private and reasonably quiet space

You do not need to be highly confident with technology. The process is simple, and guidance is provided beforehand if needed.

Many people feel unsure about online sessions initially, but often find they settle into the process quickly once sessions begin.

Session Information

Session Length

Sessions are typically 50 minutes.

Frequency

Most clients begin with weekly sessions, although this can vary depending on your needs, availability, and circumstances.

In some situations, fortnightly sessions may also be appropriate.

One-to-One Support

All sessions are confidential and held on a one-to-one basis.

The focus is entirely on your experiences, concerns, goals, and emotional wellbeing.

What Sessions Feel Like

Sessions are not about being judged, analysed, or told what to do.

The process is collaborative and reflective.

Some sessions may focus on current pressures and immediate concerns. Others may explore deeper patterns, past experiences, emotional responses, or ways of thinking that continue to affect you.

There is space for honesty, uncertainty, silence, emotion, reflection, and practical discussion.

You are not expected to perform, explain yourself perfectly, or have the “right” words.

Flexibility & Pace

There is no fixed script.

The pace of sessions is guided carefully and professionally around what feels manageable and useful for you.

Some people need time to build trust before discussing certain experiences. That is completely respected.

Confidentiality & Privacy

Confidentiality is a fundamental part of the work.

What you share during sessions is treated with care, professionalism, and respect.

Your personal information and session discussions are handled confidentially and stored securely in line with professional and ethical responsibilities.

There are, however, a small number of situations where confidentiality may need to be broken. This would only happen where there are serious concerns relating to:

  • Immediate risk of harm to yourself or someone else

  • Safeguarding responsibilities

  • Legal obligations

Where possible, this would always be discussed with you first.

The aim is to create a space where you feel safe enough to speak openly without fear of judgement.

Booking & Availability

How To Book

Appointments can be requested through the enquiry form on the website.

Once your enquiry has been received, you will be contacted with information about availability and next steps.

Availability

Session availability can vary depending on current demand.

If there is limited availability or a waiting period, this will be communicated clearly.

Response Times

Enquiries are usually responded to as soon as possible during working hours.

Responses may occasionally take longer during busy periods, evenings, weekends, or holidays.

Payment Information

Payment details and session fees are provided during the booking process.

Sessions must usually be confirmed in advance to secure your appointment time.

Cancellation & Rescheduling

It is understood that unexpected situations and changes can happen.

If you need to cancel or reschedule a session, as much notice as possible is appreciated.

A minimum notice period may apply for cancellations or missed appointments.

Full details of the cancellation policy will be provided before sessions begin so expectations are clear and fair for both sides.

The aim is to maintain a professional process while also recognising that life can sometimes be unpredictable.

Common Questions

“What if I feel nervous?”

Feeling nervous before a first session is extremely common.

Many people worry about what to say, whether they are overthinking things, or whether support is “really needed.”

You are not expected to arrive feeling confident or emotionally prepared. The first session is simply a starting point.

“Do I need experience with counselling before starting?”

No.

Many clients are completely new to counselling or coaching.

You do not need prior experience, specialist knowledge, or a particular way of speaking.

“What if I don’t know what to say?”

That is completely okay.

You do not need to organise your thoughts perfectly beforehand.

Part of the process is helping you make sense of what feels difficult, confusing, or mentally overwhelming.

“Can I stop at any time?”

Yes.

You are never locked into long-term sessions.

The process is collaborative, and you remain in control of whether you continue.

“How do I know if this is right for me?”

The first step is usually about seeing whether the support feels comfortable, useful, and appropriate for your needs.

A good therapeutic relationship should feel professional, respectful, and safe enough for honest conversations to happen over time.

Taking The First Step

Many people spend months — sometimes years — trying to manage things internally before reaching out.

Often, they have become so used to carrying pressure, overthinking, emotional strain, or mental exhaustion that it starts to feel normal.

You do not need to wait until things become unbearable before seeking support.

The first step does not need to be dramatic.

It can simply be a conversation.

If you are considering counselling or coaching and would like to learn more, you are welcome to make contact and ask questions before deciding what feels right for you.

There is no pressure to have everything figured out before you begin.
